 Background

Peace Park Background
MAK is working in partnership with the Municipality of Podujeva (population 120,000, 60% under 25yrs, 80% unemployment) to create the Manchester Peace Park in Kosovo.

The area designated for our Peace Park is sited within a region that was looted, burnt, shelled and contaminated by land mines and ordnance, immediately following the bombing of Belgrade by NATO in 1999.

The park is being built at the request of returning refugees who say their recovery was aided by the peace and beauty of the parks and gardens in the UK. Kosovars want the park to be a living symbol of the love they received in Manchester (hence the project name they have chosen).

Watch the story of the Peace Park on YouTube told by young children.
Thanks to Naomi and Anna for writing the script, Lavdim for translating and Emily for producing the video.
