05/08/2009MAG hosted MAK's first visit to Kosovo in 2000.
Manchester's Mines Advisory Group was one of the lead de-mining agencies in Kosovo from the end of hostilities in June 1999. MAG hosted MAK's first visit to Kosovo in 2000. We have worked closely with MAG particularly in the development of support from the Manchester music industry for MAG's worldwide humanitarian work.
The highly successful mass clearance of unexploded bombs and land mines from Kosovo is the result of years of international and local co-operation coordinated by UNMAK. However unexploded ordnance continues to kill, and maim in Kosovo. In 2004 local teams were trained to continue de-mining. MAK remains committed to mines awareness teaching, especially of young children.
UNMAK systems identified that no UXO injuries or sightings have been reported on the Manchester Peace Park 9 hectare site. (March 2004)
